Timbunke / Kanganaman / Yentchen / Aibon / Chambri Lakes / Kirimbit

Tour price includes airfares, accommodation, meals and guide

See photos below

DAY 1

You will depart Wewak early morning on a Tues, Weds or Thurs by light aircraft (MAF) to Timbunke airfield in the Middle Sepik area, approximately a 40 min flight.
Here you will be met by your guide and a motorised canoe which will take you on a fascinating scenic ride down-river to Kanganaman (approximately 3 hrs - fresh fruit and coconut juice is available along the way). You will arrive at Kanganaman village in time for lunch.

At Kanganaman you can choose between sleeping in your host family's own home (one big room where everyone sleeps on the floor), or a separate bungalow for visitors which has privacy screens. Your host family will cook for you and look after you. See pictures below.

On the first afternoon you will explore the village area with your hosts and visit the local Haus Tambaran.Possible sago cooking demonstration or try paddling a dugout canoe.

After the evening meal you will accompany some of the village people for crocodile hunting in local canoes. (Make sure your insurance is up to date!)

DAY 2

Your guide will take you by motor canoe to visit the neighbouring villages of Palembai and Yentchen, where you will meet local people and visit the village Haus Tambarans. Some of the most spectacular Haus Tambarans can be found in villages in this area.(There will be plenty of opportunities to purchase local artifacts if you wish, but be mindful of limited space on the small plane on the way back!)

You will return to Kanganaman to sleep. If you are not exhausted you can visit the Haus Tambaran by firelight in the evening and listen to the elders' stories.

DAY 3

Your guide will accompany you by motorised canoe to Chambri Lakes, visiting the renowned pottery village Aibon on the way and ending up at Kirimbit airfield. From Kirimbit you will return by MAF light aircraft to Wewak, arriving mid afternoon.

COST

Approx USD$320 per person for a group of 4, including:
- a good English speaking guide from that area travelling with you
- airport transfers in Wewak
- MAF flights Wewak to Timbunke and from Kirimbit to Wewak
- accomodation and meals in Kanganaman
- entry into village Haus Tambarans
- use of mosquito nets
- use of boatman and motorised canoe.

Canoe fuel is not included in the above costing. Canoe fuel works out at approximately $15 per hour and depends on how much you use the canoe. The approximate average cost of fuel would be $150 split between the number of travellers.

Additional days can be added.
