PNG
has a number of serious mountains, some of which are accessible to tourists
and others which are not. In most cases the summits can be reached with
some steep hiking, a bit of mad scrambling, and the help of a guide.
If you're interested in dragging yourself up steep escarpments with ropes
and pulleys, there aren't any such opportunities available in PNG - try
New Zealand or Nepal !

Mission). An active volcano.

Bougainville (a 3-day hike from Wakunai). An extinct volcano.
Mt Pasipasi, Milne
Bay Province (a day-hike up from Wedau)
Mt Tambu, Morobe
Province (a day hike up from Salamaua, via Coastwatcher's Ridge)
Mt Wilhelm (4509m),
Chimbu Province (PNG 's tallest mountain, cold at the top, a 2-3 day round
trip from Kegesugl, a serious climb but no technical equipment required).
Climb from
Ambullua village on the Western Highlands side.
Mt Lolo, Mt Otto,
West New Britain Province (Mt Lolo is a half
day strenuous climb - see Paradise article "A Kimbe Getaway"
on the West New Britain page)
